Puzzle #98 - Tapa (1)

Tapa is a good genre. It's also very common, but less so in the database. I'm running out of things to say.

  1. Fantastic series. I discovered your blog sometime around Christmas, but I've been solving my favourite types out of the archive since then, and so I only got to the New Year set today. Solved everything in order, from 12 down to 1. Some of the types I'd solved either never before or only very rarely, so I expected some trouble there, but in reality I managed to find logical solving paths for all puzzles and I enjoyed the experience immensely.

Short comments for the individual puzzles: 12 was the easiest one for me by far. 11, 10, and 9 are types I wasn't familiar with, but all three went smoothly enough; 10 in particular had some subtler steps which I liked a lot. 8 was rather tricky and really entertaining to untangle. 7 solved very nicely. Agreed that the larger 6 is an extremely impressive construction! 5 was another satisfying solve. 4 is a type I'd never even heard of before, and it was very nice to try something completely new. 3 was the toughest one for me by a comfortable margin; it's the only one where I was tempted to resort to guessing and bifurcation. (But eventually didn't.) 2 was another quick solve. 1 had some great use of connectedness, and, like most of the others, it's amazing how elegantly everything works together even with the constraints of the theme.

Thank you for the great puzzles, and a very happy 2020!
